Joining the University of Toronto’s Department of Civil Engineering in 1997 as Assistant Professor, Professor
Brenda McCabe soon advanced to Associate Professor in 2002, winning the Faculty’s Early Career Teaching Award along the way in 1999. From 2004 to 2006, Professor McCabe served as Associate Chair, Undergraduate Studies in Civil Engineering, making outstanding contributions to strategic planning, undergraduate recruitment, admissions, curriculum, and the student experience. In 2006, she was appointed Vice-Dean of Graduate Studies for Engineering.
In her most recent role as Chair, Civil Engineering, Professor McCabe works to further increase the Department’s profile in North American and international scholarly communities.
Professor McCabe’s achievements extent outside of the Department as well. She has served extensively on numerous committees at the professional, University and Faculty levels. McCabe is also a PEng, and a member of the Canadian and American Societies of Civil Engineers (CSCE and ASCE).
Her research interests include using artificial intelligence—specifically belief networks—to improve and automate construction engineering and management processes, statistical analysis of project control parameters, computer simulation, site safety, automated data collection, construction procurement methods and productivity analysis.
