Professor Farid Najm joined The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) in 1999. From 2004 to 2007, Professor Najm served as Vice-Chair of ECE where he was responsible for administrative leadership of the Department’s Awards Committee, the Mentoring program and the Research Computing Task Force. Working closely with the Chair at the time, he played a key role in implementing the current governance structure of the Department and provided valuable input to Departmental budget planning and academic hiring.

Professor Najm has served as Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering since July 2009. In this role, Professor Najm continues to work to increase the profile of ECE in research and educational communities across the country and world.
 
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Canadian Academy of Engineers (CAE). He has served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design and for the IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems. In 1992, he was the recipient of the IEEE Transactions on CAD Best Paper Award, an NSF Research Initiation award, and later awarded the NSF CAREER Award, an Outstanding Teaching award. Professor Najm holds two patents and two SRC Inventor Recognition Awards, has authored three books, including in 2010 the textbook Circuit Simulation (John Wiley and Sons, New York), as well as 38 journal publications and 98 conference articles.
