Professor Jun Nogami was appointed in January 2009 as Chair of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering. Before his current appointment, Professor Nogami served as Associate Chair in the Division of Engineering Science.

Prior to joining U of T’s Department of Materials Science & Engineering in 2004, Professor Nogami held professorial appointments at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Michigan State University.

Professor Nogami is a Professional Engineer (Ontario), a member of the Materials Research Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as the American Vacuum Society (AVS) and a past board member for the Nanometer Science Technical Group of the AVS.

He leads the Nanostructure Growth and Characterization Lab at U of T, where researchers use thin film growth, scanned probe microscopy, and nanolithography to further both top down and bottom up methods for fabricating nanostructured electronic materials.
