Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering

Graduate Admissions

To be admissible to a graduate program in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, you must have a suitable academic background.

General Educational Requirement

Minimum requirements for MASc and PhD programs include an undergraduate degree (usually four years) in engineering or physical sciences with at least a B+ average (U of T equivalency) in the final two years. Admission to a PhD program requires successful completion of a research master's degree with a minimum B+ average. Exceptional candidates may be considered for admission directly into the PhD from BASc either immediately or after one term in a masters program. All admission decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Graduate International Foundation Program

An Avenue to Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto

The Graduate International Foundation Program (Grad IFP) is a unique offering that combines conditional acceptance to the Master of Engineering (MEng) program at the University of Toronto with intensive English language instruction and a half credit course. The Grad IFP is an opportunity available to academically qualified international students whose English fluency scores do not meet the University of Toronto, School of Graduate Studies direct entrance requirements. Successful completion of the Grad IFP guarantees admission to the Master of Engineering program.

U of T English Facility Requirement

There is a minimum English facility requirement for all applicants who graduate from countries whose first language is not English. If you have studied for at least two years and completed a certificate or degree program in Canada, USA, Australia or Britain, you may be exempt from the English facility requirement. If you are not exempt from the English facility requirement, we accept the following English facility tests:

Tests of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
