If you completed your undergraduate degree in a country where English is not the first language, you also need to meet the University of Toronto’s English facility requirements. We accept the following English facility tests:
TOEFL paper-based: 580 (minimum 4 on the Test of Written English or TWE)
TOEFL Internet-based: 93 (minimum 22 on Writing)
IELTS: minimum score of 7
If your English facility test scores fall below the minimum required scores for admission to the MEng program, we can help you improve your English. You may be eligible for the Graduate International Foundation Program (G-IFP). This unique program combines conditional acceptance to the MEng program with intensive English language instruction in an engineering environment.
When you successfully complete this four-month program (running September to December 2012), you are guaranteed admission to the MEng program as a full-time student, starting in January 2013. As an added benefit, you will begin your program with a half-credit towards your MEng degree.
To qualify for the G-IFP, English facility scores must fall within these ranges:
TOEFL paper-based:
523 to 579 (minimum 3.5 on the
Test of Written English or TWE)
TOEFL Internet-based:
69 to 92 (minimum 16 on Writing)
IELTS:
overall 5 to 6.5 (no band lower than 5)
