Living in Toronto

If you have never had the chance to visit Toronto for yourself, below is a snapshot of some of the reasons our students love living in Toronto

Toronto is Diverse

Did you know Toronto is the most ethnically diverse city in the world, according to the United Nations? A remarkable 41% of its population was born outside of Canada — resulting in pockets of culture throughout Toronto neighborhoods. From Little Italy and Little India to Chinatown and Greektown, there's never a shortage of delicious cuisine to sample.

Toronto is Safe

Fortune Magazine ranked Toronto first overall in its international survey of the best cities in which to live and work, calling it the safest city in North America.

Toronto is Beautiful

Almost more park than city, Toronto has close to 10,000 acres of parkland. U of T has taken a strong leadership position in this area, recently remodeling part of the St. George campus by reducing the number of motor vehicle street lanes in favour of bike lanes and green space.

Getting around Toronto is Easy

Did you know Toronto is home to North America's largest transit system after New York? Toronto's public transportation system consists of a network of buses, streetcars and subways. As an additional perk, U of T students can purchase a monthly pass at a discounted price on campus. With all the bike lanes in Toronto, you’ll also find cycling around the city is both convenient and safe.

Never a dull moment in Toronto

Whether you have a passion for athletics or prefer the arts, there is never a shortage of things to do in Toronto to satisfy your interests or allow you to try something new. Toronto also embraces every aspect of being a world-class city by hosting many world-class events, like the International Film Festival, Just for Laughs comedy festival, Molson Indy, Pride Week, Jazz Festival, and Caribana, to name a few.

Toronto is close to everything

Situated on the north shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto is driving distance to several cities, such as Niagara Falls, Montreal and New York. Nature and sports enthusiasts also appreciate Toronto’s proximity to beautiful wildlife reserves, provincial parks and ski hills. With the Pearson International Airport approximately 40 minutes from campus, catching a flight anywhere in the world is extremely convenient.
