Doctor of Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is the most advanced research degree in the Faculty. Working under the direction of a supervisor, PhD students engage in original research that contributes to their field of study. Advanced course work accompanies the pursuit of the thesis.
Although PhD candidates normally hold a masters degree from this or another recognized university, it is possible for a master's candidate to transfer registration directly to a PhD program without completing the master's program. Regulations covering such transfers are described in the departmental regulations.
General Admission Requirements
PhD degree programs normally require a minimum of two years of full-time study beyond the master’s degree. In some cases, exceptional students can fast-track from the MASc into the PhD program without completing the MASc. Individual Departments should be consulted for specific admissions procedures and requirements. Detailed information on Engineering graduate admissions is available in the departmental websites listed below.
