Leaders in research, our Faculty members are recognized through the honours they receive, through their contributions to knowledge creation and by the volume of research funding they generate.

The Engineering Research Office provides a range of services to researchers, University administration, industry and government on behalf of the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. More specifically, we serve the Faculty and University in the following ways:


Services for Faculty

  • Identification of potential sources of research funding and awards for specific research areas
  • Identification of investigators/industry partners in complementary or related fields of research
  • Development of strategic alliances with external organizations
  • Proposal development, review and editing to ensure funding criteria are addressed
  • Workshops and information sessions on funding issues and opportunities
  • Information on research processes and procedures
  • Information on research and technology transfer/commercialization services
    at U of T

Services for Academic Administration

  • Coordination between the Dean, Vice-Dean and departmental offices on research matters
  • Statistical and analytical reports for information and planning purposes for U of T Engineering, University of Toronto and outside organizations
  • Support for the development of large funding submissions and interdisciplinary initiatives, proposal development, symposia, visits and data generation
  • Leadership for initiatives that increase industry involvement with research units, departments and U of T Engineering
  • Development of support programs for new researchers
  • Coordination of nominations and submissions for prizes and awards
  • Development of U of T Engineering policies on research

Services for Industry and Government

  • Identification of expertise and technologies
  • Promotion and facilitation of research contracts, partnerships and consortiums
  • Information on contracts, grants and IP policies
  • Development and promotion of initiatives to sustain economic growth through Engineering research

Advocacy and Communications Services

  • Advocate for research with federal and provincial governments, Councils, professional  associations and the public
  • Support for the research community on public issues
  • Promotion of U of T Engineering's research enterprises
  • Presentation of U of T Engineering research within the University
