Managers are required to take full responsibility for ensuring workers under their supervision are paid on time and in the right amount. This applies for every type of employee, including appointed staff, temporary staff, teaching assistants, etc., as well as every type of payroll change, such as salary adjustments, new hires, leaves, terminations, extended health absences, etc. Payroll deadlines are imposed by the University and are rigid, so that changes to payroll must be provided to the Business Officer in accordance with these deadlines. This responsibility cannot be delegated. The manager must communicate directly with his or her Business Officer to ensure all aspects of the payroll transaction are duly approved, fully documented, and signed off in writing. This is an important duty of a manager, in that every worker has the right to expect his or her pay will be accurate and deposited to the employee's bank account on time.
