Overview of U of T Signatures (logos)

FASE Signature 2010

All logos issued by U of T are official marks of the institution and should be used with care.

Logos exist at seven levels:

  • Core U of T
  • U of T campuses (UTSC and UTM)
  • U of T faculties
  • U of T academic departments and extra-departmental units
  • U of T colleges
  • U of T federated universities
  • Co-branded entities

Do not create your own logo. If your unit falls outside of these seven areas (e.g., an administrative unit within U of T Engineering), use the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering logo.

General Usage Guidelines

The guidelines below come from U of T’s official style guide.

  • U of T logos must always appear exactly as designed. Never alter them in any way.
  • Logos must appear on a white background.
  • Do not place logos atop photos.
  • No other text may appear as part of the signature or so close to the signature as to look as if it is part of it.
  • Left-justify logos. If left-alignment is not possible, please right-align. Do not centre.
  • In any single document, there must never be more than one U of T logo. That is, within the same brochure, use either the Faculty’s logo or your department’s logo – not both.
  • The same signature can appear more than once within the document. That is, the Faculty logo can appear on both the front and back covers of a brochure.
  • All U of T logos consist of two elements: the crest (i.e., the shield and tree) and the wordmark (i.e., the words “University of Toronto, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering). The crest and wordmark must always appear together as part of a full logo. Never use either the crest or a wordmark on its own.
    • In print application, the clear space around all sides of the logo must be equal to 50% of the height of the crest. The crest must appear 0.25 inches (0.7 cm) or larger.
    • In web application, the clear space above and below the signature should be 25% of the height of the crest. The crest must appear at 80 pixels in height or larger.
    • The crest and wordmark must always appear together as part of a full signature; never use either the crest or a wordmark on its own.
