Back-to-Back Lectures, 50 minutes with 10 minutes for Q&A each:

  • Lecture 1: Euler-Bernoulli Beam Theory for 2nd-year undergraduate students
  • Lecture 2: Humanistic Engineering Design (Advanced Design Topic for 4th-year undergraduate or 1st-year graduate students)

Bio

Mikhail Burke is a U of T Alum who completed both his BASc in Materials Science and Engineering (2012) and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering (2018) within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (FASE).

As an engineering educator and advocate, he made several contributions to the continued development of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within U of T Engineering including co-authoring the FASE Striving Towards Black Inclusivity Report, working across departments to support the development of access-based programs and supports for Black students, teaching courses at the intersection of EDI considerations and engineering, co-developing the structure of an EDI undergraduate curricular certificate, and spearheading the development of the Engineering Applicant Census and the Incident Disclosure Framework for students.

He has a strong interest in inclusive pedagogical practice and serves as co-chair of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACEG) EDI Special Interest Group. Mikhail is also a National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) alum and a previous president of the NSBE U of T chapter.

Mikhail has recently joined the U of T Division of Student Life (SL) as the new Manager, EDI Initiatives. The focus of the role includes providing strategic advice to the Division with regards to issues related to EDI and support the progression of recommendations advocated for by Student Life staff through the St. George SL-EDIA Advisory Committee Summary Report.
