Panel and Q&A: Why Should Engineers Engage Professionally with Issues of Racism and Discrimination?

September 10, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Often when issues of racism and discrimination come up, engineers wonder what these issues have to do with them professionally. They may personally be invested in addressing these issues, but may not see them as something to be grappled with from a professional standpoint. This makes it difficult to bring these topics to the engineering classroom or workplace. This panel is envisioned as a conversation starter within FASE on the question of “why should engineers engage professionally in efforts to eliminate racism and discrimination?”

The panelists will start the session by making brief statements addressing the question. This would then be followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience. The session will be recorded, with the option for audience members to ask questions in anonymous fashion.
