The UTM Library and Black at UTM are proud to present the launch of Black on the Shelf, a collection of books to showcase Black excellence. Black on the Shelf is also an effort to acquaint and re-acquaint Black people with the notion of penning and publishing their own stories.
Over the past few months, Black at UTM have been working with the UTM library to curate a list of 31 books that range in topics related to Blackness, equity, education, and various literary genres. Black on the Shelf recognizes that when individuals tell their own story, they leave a legacy, effect change in the lives of others, and encourage Black people all over to uplift one another and build a stronger community together. This collection includes books recommended by Black-identifying students at UTM, books published by Black-identifying scholars at UTM, and books that focus on anti-racist and inclusive pedagogies.
