The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) does not provide rankings for universities in the category of engineering and information technology. Instead they provide overall university rankings and rankings at the level of individual subjects. Of these, the subject rankings are most relevant to our key performance indicators. However, the data as provided by ARWU does not always permit comparisons more specific than a tranche of 25–50 institutions.

A series of horizontal bar charts depicting only the universities in the Canadian U15 group that appear in the global Top 200 for various engineering subject rankings, as ranked by Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The length of each bar relates to the overall score. U of T Engineering is ranked higher than any other Canadian U15 university in biomedical engineering (51–75th overall), materials science & engineering (45th overall) and computer science & engineering (17th overall). In the other subjects, it ranks anywhere from 37th to somewhere in the 101st–150th tranche. It is always within the top three Canadian U15 schools for that subject, with the exception of mechanical engineering, where it ranks 6th among Canadian U15 schools, and civil & structural engineering, where it ranks 7th among Canadian U15 schools.

A series of horizontal bar charts depict the proportion of selected awards open to Canadian engineering faculty members between 2020 and 2024 that went to U of T Engineering faculty members. U of T Engineering faculty members comprised 25.0% of the Foreign Members of the U.S. National Academies (one of four awarded); 25.0% of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (one of our awarded); 33.3% of the Killam Prizes in Engineering (one of three awarded); 14.5% of the Engineering Institute of Canada Fellows (11 of 76 awarded); 12.5% of the Royal Society of Canada Fellows awarded in the Academy of Science (4 of 32 awarded); 11.8% of the Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellows (17 of 144 awarded); and 21.7% of the Ontario Professional Engineers Awards (5 of 23 awarded).
