ESP Design Day 2026

You are invited to attend ESP Design Day, an opportunity to explore the projects our first-year engineering students worked on in the Engineering Strategies & Practice (ESP) course.

Engineering Strategies & Practice (APS112) is an award-winning engineering design course taken by all first-year students in the Core 8 programs. The course explores themes such as the role of engineering in society, our relationship with the environment, and the potential and importance that our work holds for people.

In APS112, first-year engineering students do real work for real clients, seeing a design project from beginning to end. In learning the basics of project management, how to approach and break down complex problems, and how to execute the design process, students use knowledge gained in the classroom to tackle real-world problems.

This year, we have 200 projects! Students have worked with a variety of different clients, such as the City of Toronto, Toronto Fire Services, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, The Hospital for Sick Children, and St. Lawrence College, to mention a few. Sessions run in the morning and afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you at ESP Design Day 2026! Registration is required for guests, including alumni, staff, faculty, and students not affiliated with the course. Please register by Monday, April 6.

If you have any questions, please email esp@engineering.utoronto.ca
