Laugh, Cry, Cringe: Story Telling Series

November 1, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

UTM Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Office (EDIO) in partnership with Hart House Black Futures presents Laugh, Cry, Cringe: Storytelling Series for Fall 2023 / Winter 2024.

Laugh, Cry Cringe seeks to create braver spaces to engage in conversations that explore personal stories, current events, cultural narratives, while unmasking misconceptions about various groups/communities/people. In this new storytelling format, our intention is to act as an outlet for folks to release tensions, build community, practice wellness, and become inspired to take positive action in their daily lives. With an amazing line-up of storytellers, we invite folks to let go and laugh, cry or cringe while listening to these stories.

Through this initiative our hope is to bridge current gaps between our diverse communities through dialogues of understanding and respect, and to create more inclusive and sustainable learning environments for students at UTM and across all campuses as well as the broader community.

Join us for a conversation that is designed to inspire individuals to take positive actions in their daily lives. Our hope through this initiative is to bridge current gaps between our diverse communities through dialogues of understanding, and to create more inclusive and sustainable learning environments for the UTM community and beyond.

Each storytelling session will include a different speaker and topic led by students, staff faculty and/or community members who will share their lived experience, perspectives, and life lessons while they invite us into their world. We encourage and invite all U of T students, staff, faculty, and librarians to attend.

Objectives:

• Create brave spaces to engage in conversations that explore personal narratives and share stories.
• Debunk misconceptions about marginalized groups, communities, and people.
• Normalize and shift narratives around anti-oppression in a respectful way.
