Pink Shirt Day

Positive Space is excited to participate in this year’s Pink Shirt Day, which will take place on February 27, 2019. We hope to raise awareness and start conversations to help combat homophobia and transphobia and create positive, inclusive spaces at the University of Toronto.

Positive Space is setting up a Booth in Sid Smith Lobby to commemorate Pink Shirt Day 2019!  Bring your friends, wear a pink shirt (if you have one), and tell us what Pink Shirt Day means to you with the hashtag #IWearPinkBecause!

When: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 @ 10:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Sidney Smith Hall Lobby

What is Pink Shirt Day?

Pink Shirt Day, also known as Anti-Bullying Day, is an annual day to take a stand against homophobic and transphobic bullying and discrimination. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people are more likely to experience bullying and harassment because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about anti-LGBTQ bullying and spread the message that it is never okay to bully or harass someone because of who they are.

What is Positive Space?

The Positive Space Campaign is organized by a committee of volunteers who work to create awareness of LGBTQ communities and issues at the University of Toronto. The Positive Space Committee hosts events, conducts educational initiatives, and shares information about LGBTQ-related events and resources with all members of the campus community.

Our mission:

  • Challenge discrimination based on sexual and gender diversity
  • Help to build a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive campus community
  • Increase visibility for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students, staff, and faculty
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and intersectional understandings of identity
  • Foster pride, belonging, and community at the University of Toronto
