MINdustry Night - This is an event MinClub (usually) hosts annually to provide an opportunity for current students to connect with Mineral Engineering alumni. This year, MinClub hosted the most ambitious and, ultimately, successful MINdustry Night to date. We rented the Smith House on College St. for the event. The evening was structured as a kind of talk show/interview/Q&A in which each alumnus would come to the stage and be interviewed by an admin of MinClub on the top of his/her career. They would tell stories about their career and some even gave PowerPoint presentations of their career path that they prepared. There was also food that was free for the attendees. All left feeling that they had learned something and in many cases, made new connections. We had a record attendance of over 40 people.
All You Can Eat (AYCE) Wings Night - In this first-ever event, we invited all current MinEng students to come out to St. Louis Wings so everyone could take advantage of their AYCE wings option. This event has the distinction of being (as far as we are aware), the largest ever turnout for a MinClub event. We had 80+ people attend, which is over 90% of the MinEng student body. For many, this was their first opportunity to meet with the rest of the student body across different years. We (MinClub) were so pleased that we could foster connection- and relationship-building to an extent not seen before.
PEY Night - On this evening, MinClub booked out a room in MB to have upper-year current students give interactive presentations of their PEY experiences. It provided an opportunity for the lower years (none of whom had done their co-op yet) to learn about the application process and co-op experience as a whole. The event included free snacks and beverages for the students to enjoy. All those asked reported that they felt it was valuable for them.
Thanks to CPSIF, MinClub was able to provide professional development, academic improvement, and social engagement opportunities to students in the MinEng body. We strongly believe that these will help promote growth and foster success for our students, as was our aim.
