MIE Dinner Dance - Mech Club co-hosted the annual MIE Dinner Dance in October 2024, which continues to be one of our main annual initiatives. This year, we welcomed around 130 guests and were able to keep ticket costs below $100 per student (including the event and transportation).
Toronto Marlies Game - Mech Club collaborated with local hockey team Toronto Marlies to offer discounted tickets to a Marlies game at Coca-Cola coliseum. The discounted price was $37 per ticket and thanks to CPSIF funding, we were able to further subsidize $17 per ticket to offer tickets at $20 per. This was the first year we established this partnership and 10 students bought tickets and attended the match, which was on par with our expectations.
Thanksgiving Potluck - In October, Mech Club we invited students to bring in their own dishes and provided catering of our own. Around 40 students in total attended through a few hours and it was one of our more successful social events.
We are proud to report that our initiatives culminated in Mech Club winning the Engineering Society Award for Discipline Club of the Year for the first time in 17 years!
Due to CPSIF funding, we were able to offer admission to our Iron Ring Afterparty free of charge for fourth year students. Additionally, we were able to initiate an academic anti-calendar survey and offer rewards to all participants. We were also able to host our annual Research Panel and provide catering for attendees as well as gifts for speakers. We'd like to express our utmost gratitude to the MIE department for their generous, continued support that makes our success possible.
