To summarize our key opportunities for this year, we organized and helped with:
These events saw hundreds of students participating in builds, learning about safe power tool usage, and planning their own builds, the remembrance of our history and the lives lost in the first world war and the École Polytechnique massacre, the celebration of 20 years of UofT Engineering participation in Toronto Pride where we collaborated with 4 other engineering societies with our largest march group to-date, and raising over four thousand dollars for LifeWater Canada during Godiva Week.
With the number of events held throughout the year, there was often at least one event per month, with some months having multiple, trying to facilitate participation by scheduling away from busy times of the year. These events included our pre-frosh build in May, the Pride Parade and float build throughout June, bed races and frosh week participation / outreach in August, Tools 101 in October, the Remembrance Day build in November, NDRAVAW build in December, Godiva Week in January, Tools102 in February, and Blue and Gold elections in March.
It is due to CPSIF funding that we are able to offer our builds at all, as each year, we require several thousand dollars worth of build materials. This includes mainly structural wood and plywood sheets, and the replacement of tools that get worn throughout their lifetimes. Additionally, CPSIF allows us to host all our events for free, - with the most notable being Toronto Pride allowing the inclusion of all students without the worry of having to pay (as we have to pay for our permit each year) - and for us to recognize all the students who volunteer throughout the year.
