Industry Night 2024 - With support from CPSIF funding, CivMinGSA has hosted our most successful Industry Night. Over 70 graduate students had the opportunity to connect with professionals and alumni from civil and mineral engineering sectors, including representatives from leading firms such as ARUP, WSP, and MTO. The event included networking sessions, panel discussions, and informal Q&As. Feedback from students highlighted the event as a pivotal opportunity for career exploration, mentorship, and building industry connections.
Coffee Chats - To foster community and support graduate student well-being, we launched the CivMin Coffee Chat series during the Fall and Winter terms. The session brought together +15 students for informal conversations over coffee and snacks, offering a space to discuss academic challenges, life-work balance, and research progress. These events promoted peer support and inclusion, and were especially appreciated by international students and first-year graduate students seeking connection within the department.
We sincerely thank CPSIF and its donors for their generous support. Thanks to this funding, we were able to organize our most successful Industry Night to date, offering the event free of charge and making it accessible to all graduate students. The impact was clear—students expressed strong interest in hosting similar networking events more frequently, ideally twice per year. However, budget limitations remain a significant barrier to expanding these valuable opportunities. Continued and increased support would help us meet growing demand and further enhance student-industry connections within Civil and Mineral Engineering.
