We first held a Game Night event at the beginning of the Fall semester as a casual event to introduce the engineering graduate student body to GradLeads and for them to have an opportunity to meet their peers across different labs and disciplines. Around 20 students were in attendance at a given time, and we also took the opportunity to promote our more educational/professional events.
GradLeads also hosted a half-day Mindfulness retreat near the end of Fall semester, engaging around 25 students with interactive educational sessions and guided meditation exercises led by trainers from the Multi Faith Centre. The event fostered meaningful discussion, active participation, and practical stress-management skills, with trainers highlighting the group as one of their most engaged audiences. Follow-up resources and exposure to campus wellness services further extended the event’s impact beyond the event itself.
While not the primary organizer, GradLeads collaborates with external groups like the AI Collective, in an event series exploring the use of AI in civil engineering and real estate. Most recently they brought in an industry guest speaker to share on how AI can be used in project management and different areas in the construction. These events are open to the public, typically hold around 50 participants, and help connect students and professionals in this field of interest.
Thanks to CPSIF funding, GradLeads is able to provide food and refreshments to our participants, book venues and equipment, and offer honoraria to bring in esteemed guest speakers and facilitators to our events, encouraging attendance, engagement, and enriching our programming. This funding strengthens our ability to foster community, professional development, and student well-being, for which we are thankful to the donors.
