University of Toronto Outing Club (UTOC)
The University of Toronto Outing Club (UTOC) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1957 by U of T students. Since our incorporation, we have expanded our membership and mandate to be as accessible and welcoming as possible to all outdoor enthusiasts from the Greater Toronto Area and Grey-Bruce County community, in addition to U of T students, alumni, and staff. One of our core principles is to run trips and activities for people with any level of outdoor experience in an effort to make them enjoyable and accessible to everyone.
We pride ourselves in being a friendly, welcoming community offering frequent, inexpensive weekend and day trips to many parts of Ontario (and sometimes beyond), with longer trips involving camping and hiking in provincial/national parks. The club also organizes regular social events within the city of Toronto for members and non-members alike, such as our monthly pub social.
Key Accomplishments for 2025-2026
In April 2026, UTOC hosted its 69th anniversary celebration, welcoming over 100 members (past and present). This event brought intergenerational networking, bonding and camaraderie, with some alumni being over 90 years old! The event consisted of square dancing, networking and education on the club’s rich history.
During the February Reading Week, UTOC ran its farthest trip ever, to Mont Tremblant. Execs brought 20 members on a 5 day ski trip. This trip marked a new step as to how far the club can go, and opened doors for future travelling trips.
CPSIF Funding Impact
Due to CPSIF, we were able to offer recurring events on mental health and the outdoors through our “Campfire Conversations” series, free of charge. We also offered a masterclass in documentary filmmaking and an outdoor film screening with guest speaker, filmmaker Greg Grandsen, free of charge. CPSIF allowed us to lower the cost of events in the city, increasing our ability to reflect our mission of accessible outdoor programming.
