NewSpace Chicago Student Space Conference - The NewSpace Chicago Student Space Conference, a virtual event hosted by Mudd Law Firm in November, allowed student teams to showcase their projects in space exploration to an audience of ~30 attendees from industry and students. 5 members of ISET presented our commercial space station concept at our virtual booth, giving a 15-minute presentations to judges and conference attendees. The judges were impressed with the creativity of the design and we received feedback on incorporating budgeting. In the end, we were honored to win the first-place award!
Canadian Space Conference - In January, six members from ISET travelled to Montreal for the Canadian Space Conference, organized by SEDS Canada. As one of 25+ exhibitors, we hosted a student booth and demonstrated our CAD models and the physical prototype of the exterior of our commercial space station with mission workflow.
Technical Showcase - In April, we organized our own year-end technical showcase for the public, where around 10-15 U of T members attended. Nine members of our team presented the final 3D-printed prototypes including the exterior of the space station and the Arduino-based telemetry, interior layouts with budgets, water recovery and oxygen production diagrams, and orbital simulation followed by Q&A sessions. Several prospective members joined ISET afterward.
Thanks to CPSIF funding, we were able to cover 85% of the costs associated with our trip to the Canadian Space Conference in Montreal, making it possible for more of our members to attend and gain valuable experience. This is the first time that we were able to send six students!
