National Society of Black Engineers
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), founded in 1975, is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports the professional development of undergraduate students in engineering and technology. Our chapter was founded in 1999 and is the largest chapter in Toronto. NSBE U of T is also a part of NSBE Canada and NSBE Region 1. Our vision is to have a reputable and prominent presence as a safe space for high school and university students to learn, mentor and network amongst themselves and the wider STEM community.
Key accomplishments
Annual High School Conference - With the theme “Space Exploration,” this conference engaged over 20 high school students, introducing them to STEM fields through interactive sessions. CPSIF funding covered materials and logistics, making the event accessible and inspiring future engineers.
Exam Jam - This academic support event provided study sessions, wellness activities, and meals to over 50 students during exam season. CPSIF contributions ensured a stress-free environment, promoting academic success and well-being.
CPSIF funding impact
Thanks to CPSIF funding, we were able to offer NSBEHacks—our flagship hackathon—completely free for over 100 participants, removing financial barriers and increasing accessibility. Funding also supported high-impact events like our Exam Jam, Paint and Sip, and High School Conference, helping us invest in better resources and reach over 300 students throughout the year.
