Skule Badminton Club (SBC)
Our goal is to encourage physical activity and foster camaraderie by organizing regular badminton meetups. We have consistently achieved this throughout the year by hosting weekly court sessions and monthly tournaments. Our diverse membership consisting of all eight core engineering disciplines, as well as students from Computer Science, Life Sciences, and other fields have come together to engage in friendly competition. These events have helped build new friendships and strengthen connections across the three University of Toronto campuses.
Key accomplishments
Ladder Tournament at the Athletic Centre - This year, SBC hosted a ladder tournament focused on recruiting new members across the three campuses at UofT. The event accumulated ~50 sign ups with the majority of attendees consisting of UTSG and UTM students. Through this campaign, SBC recruited ~20 new members.
Purchasing New Equipment - This year, SBC prioritized replacing equipment such as birdies and rental rackets. Since many attendees identified as beginners, we aimed to provide high quality equipment to ensure an enjoyable experience for all members regardless of skill level. By offering well maintained gear, new players could fully participate without the financial burden of purchasing their own equipment before knowing whether they were truly interested in the sport.
CPSIF funding impact
Thanks to CPSIF funding, SBC was able to host weekly court rentals without financial strain and serve over 100 members throughout the year. This generous support also allowed us to purchase new equipment for beginners, enabling them to try the sport without the pressure of investing in their own gear, especially if they later decide badminton is not for them.
