Technical Projects - This year, TMI has had two successful technical projects that are relevant to the growing concerns of AI usage in society. The first being Deep Fake Audio Detection, where a team of around 7 students have reviewed current literature and created models that effectively detects when a segment of audio is AI-generated. The second project being Reddit Content Moderation, where the team of around 5 students leveraged cloud computing services and created models that effectively identify and categorize hate speech in social media platforms. These projects have provided an opportunity for students to build their theoretical hands-on skills through relevant projects that can be showcased in the future.
Social Reach - Our newsletter team has also been working on growing the list of readers for a wider reach, and our monthly content, based on the relevant news in AI, have provided students up-to-date articles on the ethics of AI, as well as educational opportunities and job postings available to them.
Because of CPSIF funding, we were able to organize more social activities for our subteams, and increase the member retention rate and club morale, which have been an issue of concern in past years. Additionally, we were able to get a subscription to cloud computing for our project, which sped up the development process, and served as a unique hands-on learning experience of cloud-supported AI development for students, which will place them at an advantage for employment.
