Gradball - Gradball this year took place on March 21, 2025 at Parkview Manor. In total, we were able to accommodate 640 guests, which included students from all engineering disciplines. In addition, we were able to invite EngSoc staff and Dean Yip, as well as student performing groups including the jazz ensemble, cannon guard, and the Lady Godiva memorial band. This recent Gradball was the largest Gradball recorded within the past few years, including just prior to the COVID pandemic. This was able to be accomplished while remaining accessible in terms of food and travel options. One major initiative that was accomplished in Gradball this year is the inclusion of a prayer room to accommodate for religious observances that happened to fall on the same date, and schedule dinner in accordance with the observances as well. This year, the theme was "The Great Gatsby" and allowed students to dress up with a golden age flare. A secondary initiative was the inclusion of merchandising, which was an option previously only offered during the pandemic. This year, over 200 pins were sold as memorabilia for students as well as a positive funding initiative to offset budget expenses. Overall, Gradball was reviewed as a success through through much of word of mouth feedback.
With the support of CPSIF this year, Gradball was able to accommodate more students and ensure transportation is available while controlling the cost and losses to a reasonable amount. Every year, Gradball is a sold out event that sees more demand than available tickets. However, expanding numbers has been difficult as losses are associated with the inflation and high costs of transportation. Having additional funding allows us to realize improvements without suffering heavy financial losses, keeping the project financially viable.
