University of Toronto Smash Ultimate Club
UTSmash was formed to act as a central gathering point for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Smash Ultimate) players and enthusiasts at the University of Toronto. UTSmash aims to foster, promote, and expand our Smash Ultimate community. UTSmash holds weekly in-person events to provide players with a space to interact and compete in our diverse community. Key accomplishments
Tournaments - Our club has held over 50 open-to all and mostly free-to-enter tournaments serving both U of T and the GTA Smash community, gathering over 315 entrants from over 25 countries. Attendees regularly call us the most welcoming and fun events they attend, while still being highly competitive (usually featuring 3 or more of Ontario's top 10 players).
Ranked Game - Our club held an internationally ranked event (UTSmash Campus Clash II) in February, drawing all 10 of Ontario's best players, players from Quebec, and Canada's best player Riddles, gaining well over 100 attendees and being the single largest regional event in Ontario.
Streaming - Our group has committed to streaming and posting all matches streamed at every tournament, culminating in over 165 hours streamed and 563 total videos posted to our YouTube channel. Our Twitch stream has 243 followers and regularly garners 15 active watchers, while our YouTube channel sits at 135 subscribers with 39000+ total views on our recorded matches.
CPSIF funding impact
Our CPSIF funding was primarily used to purchase our new and upgraded Elgato Capture Card. Thanks to the CPSIF funding we were able to replace our lost capture card and not depend on a club exec to lend his, while improving the stream video and audio quality for the many videos we post.
